The Dharma wheel commonly evokes the teaching and path; the lotus awakening amid difficult conditions; the Bodhi tree the Buddha’s awakening. Stūpas and Buddha images have devotional, memorial and teaching functions. Meanings vary by context. Symbols are not substitutes for conduct or evidence of someone’s attainment. When sharing sacred imagery, present it respectfully and explain its meaning rather than using it as decoration alone.
