Jātakas are traditional stories about the Buddha’s previous births. They explore generosity, patience, wisdom and other qualities through memorable narratives. Collections and retellings differ; a moral story is not automatically a verified historical event. Ask what a story teaches and what needs interpretation for present-day life. Extraordinary self-sacrifice in a tale should not become pressure on a vulnerable person to tolerate harm.
