Read the lesson

The four brahmavihāras are mettā, goodwill; karuṇā, compassion; muditā, appreciative joy; and upekkhā, equanimity. They widen care beyond personal preference. Compassion responds to suffering, while appreciative joy welcomes another’s happiness. Equanimity is balanced care, not indifference. Try wishing a colleague well without comparing their progress with yours, while recognising that kindness can include sensible boundaries.
