The six-realm scheme describes devas, asuras, humans, animals, hungry ghosts and hell beings. It is especially familiar in Mahāyāna and Tibetan presentations; some classifications group realms differently. These are traditional rebirth cosmologies, not scientifically established locations. Psychological comparisons can help reflection but do not exhaust their religious meaning. Avoid using realm imagery to insult people or suggest that suffering makes someone less worthy of care.
