Saṅgha can refer to the ordained community, while noble Saṅgha refers to those who have realised stages of awakening. Modern usage sometimes includes a wider practice community. Lay supporters and monastics have related but distinct roles. A supportive community combines learning, generosity and accountability. Ask how questions are welcomed and concerns addressed; religious status does not remove responsibility for conduct.
